Academic License Update for Nanome

May 18, 2026

New Seat Types

With Nanome v2.5, we're drawing an explicit line between seat changes to follow a broader product shift.

The Full Seat under Academic (Classroom / Personal) is now $250 per year. The new price reflects the expanded feature set of version 2.5 which extends collaboration from XR to now also our new web application.

The Full Web Seat is the same Nanome experience built for the browser. Multi-user collaboration with XR teammates, MCP server calls and Claude Skills, scientific agents with autonomous tool use, GPU-based tools (coming soon), and unlimited projects, workspaces, and chats. For students, lab members, or collaborators who don't have a headset but need the full capabilities of the Nanome platform.

The Free Web Seat is the entry point: free, browser-only, no commitment. Web visualization, scene playback, follow-mode collaboration with XR teammates, direct PDB/SDF/CIF uploads, and a starter allowance of MARA credits and workspaces to get going.

Same product. The gating is just made explicit, so each tier reflects what it actually delivers. The Free Web Seat remains the easiest entry point for any scientist, student, or curious chemist to start working with Nanome in the browser.

The pricing page comparison table has been rebuilt around these four seat types. New rows make it easier to see at a glance what each seat comes with. Check it out here:

New Pricing: Get 2 free, for every 8 licenses.

Volume pricing on Academic (Personal) runs on a pay-8-get-2-free bonus. Every 8 paid seats include 2 more at no cost. The bonus stacks. 16 paid is 20 received. 24 paid is 30 received. And so on. For example:

You pay for Total cost You receive
8$2,00010
16$4,00020
24$6,00030

Two natural ways to read the count, both legitimate:

Want 12 licenses in total? Pay for 10, receive 12. The bonus covers the 11th and 12th. Total: $2,500.

Want to pay for 12? Pay 12, receive 14. The bonus adds the 13th and 14th on top of what you ordered. Total: $3,000.

The cheaper read usually fits when the count is driven by headcount (students in a section, headsets you already own, lab seats you've planned for).

The bonus also bridges into Department-Wide. At 48 paid licenses, the per-seat price drops from $250 to $150, and web-only seats open up as an add-on at $50 each. Web-only suits students or lab assistants who can join sessions in a browser without owning a headset. The pay-8-get-2-free bonus keeps applying at this tier, so 48 paid still gives you 60 full-seat licenses received. Below 48 paid, web-only seats aren't available.

For an exact quote, email support@nanome.ai with the institution, your role, and the use case (classroom, research group, teaching lab). A quote PDF comes back with line items broken out so you can see what's paid for and what's included as bonus. The math is deterministic. The number you see is the number you'll be billed.

Department Licenses

Department-Wide introduces a new seat: the Full Web Seat, starting at $50 per seat per year with a 50-seat minimum. Students and faculty get the full Nanome web experience: multi-user collaboration with XR teammates, MCP server calls, with autonomous tool use, and unlimited workspaces, projects, and chats. No headset required.

Departments that want XR included get the Full Seat at $150 per seat per year, the same experience already running in instructional labs and research benches.

The rollout support is built in: molecular file storage across the academic experience, syllabus and course implementation assistance, and the option for Nanome (or a deployment partner) to handle device administration end to end.
